Glimpse for Ubuntu and GNOME
Glimpse Music
The music on your computer, USB drives, Samba shares and online folders, from Jellyfin and Plex servers, and internet radio. Browse by artist, album and song, play from Now Playing, playlists and bookmarks, and tidy up tags and cover art.

What it does
Your library
- Browse by artist, album and song, by folder, or as a tree
- Scan your music folders, drives and network shares; Scan for Changes picks up new songs and drops deleted ones
- Works with USB drives, Samba shares and online (WebDAV) folders
Playing
- Now Playing, playlists, and bookmarks to play an album or folder again later
- Media keys and GNOME's sound menu control it
- Favourite artists: right-click an artist to add them, and they appear under Bookmarks as shortcuts to their albums
Servers and radio
- Jellyfin and Plex libraries
- Internet radio stations
Tags and artwork
- Edit a song's details and cover, filled in from MusicBrainz, iTunes, Deezer and Wikipedia
- Or found by the song's sound with AcoustID (using your own application key)
The Glimpse look
- Style and Colour in Preferences, and the same menu, Help and About as the other Glimpse apps
- A debug log you can attach to a problem report

Install it
For Ubuntu 24.04 LTS and newer. Open a Terminal (Ctrl+Alt+T), paste these lines one at a time and press Enter. The first two add the Glimpse software source; the last installs the app. apt fetches everything it needs from Ubuntu itself, and updates come with your normal Ubuntu updates.
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:turone/glimpse sudo apt update sudo apt install glimpse-music
To remove it: sudo apt remove glimpse-music. The software source is the Glimpse PPA on Launchpad, which has the Glimpse apps.
The code is open: launchpad.net/glimpse-music. Problems and ideas go there too, or to support@glimpse-media.com.
Designed by Salvatore Turone and written with the help of Claude Code, Anthropic's AI coding tool: the ideas, design and testing are his; Claude wrote most of the code.
